I was taken for a meal tonight by my sister (in-law), Anna. She has been diagnosed with breast cancer, has had a masectomy and is going throught the chemotherapy, will be having radiotherapy and hormone treatment too. I am so impressed by her attitude, she is amazing, dealing with the changes in her life, the loss of a breast, her hair falling out (ivor has more hair right now!), and she is smiling and laughing, in the full knowledge that her collection of cells is being bombarded by extremely strong medecines. i am sure there are moments of deep depression that hit hard, and i want you to know, anna, that you are an inspiration to me, and i am sure hundreds of other women too, since your appearance on gmtv (click for link)!
as the doc says, keep that smile on your face, even through the tears sometimes.
So the lowry family visit the uk to introduce Ivor, who has a few less cells than us, to his relatives over here. We werent sure if had forgotten to pack anything:
Yesterday was a trip to oxford to the Ashmolean Museum, great collection of old stuff, i particularly enjoyed the greek section of course, salix loved it all, fabien only remembered the weaponry - typical!
We had a gathering for justin since he will celebrate his fortieth this year, and a great big shout goes out to all of those who made it on such short notice, especially ann and ari, and lucy, tim and oscar. salix and fabien were made up to see their little friend who is now walking. i had a lovely evening, and justin was bowled over. Hello to those who couldnt make it, i passed on your best wishes...
last night we went to visit lisa and dean, and i was pleased to discover some photos of our last party so will post some soon!
One of the nicest parts of our project is inviting people who might never experience such an environment, let alone our lifestyle, and seeing how the deal with it. Lisa, a twenty-something hairdresser, impeccable with manicure and stilettos was a joy to welcome. her only complaint was the frodo feet once she had removed her shoes for the weekend!
here are a couple of photos... more soon zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
