entrails and harvest!

what a mix of experiences life is. one evening i was shepherding with renata from the czech rep. (she knows a lot of plants and was able to identify some of the flora for me - still need to learn lots) when one of the sheep began to hang back. It was twilight and i thought i could see something hanging from her body - possibly a baby i thought? but no, on closer inspection there was a hole in the side of the sheep below the ribs, with a load of entrails hanging out. good grief. what to do? so i left poor renata up there with injured sheep and walked the rest of the flock home. i came home, to a table full of laughing happy people sitting outside under the now darkening skies, and promptly broke the party up, with several able bodied people accompanying justin in the 4x4 to pick up renata and sheep. doomed sheep i was certain. some friends came round and while i said hello to them justin came home and i was surprised to see him getting ready to try to fix the sheep. i argued against to be honest, thinking that if she was going to go, it would be better quickly than after hours/days of suffering. but you know, that sheep lay there, whilst there were lots of people and generator going, and justin tried to push those wriggly entrails back in, without knotting them up, twisting them... the sheep had to be able to continue to use them. justin had to cut her a bit more to get them in, it seemed to be taking too long... she didnt move, after a couple of kicks, until we finished.
Then she was on her feet straight away. her name is stitch now :)
the video is of chris our master seamstress stitching her up
